About ESI Registration

Employee State Insurance Registration is applicable to all the companies having more than 10 employees drawing a maximum monthly salary of Rs. 21,000/-. ESI Registration is to be done with the Employee State Insurance Corporation who manages and offers various medical and monetary benefits to these employees. It is a 17- digit unique identification number allotted to each factory/establishment/ registered under this Act.

Employees State Insurance (ESI) Scheme runs under an independent authority- Employee State Insurance Corporation which falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Labour & Employment.

ESI is just like a social insurance scheme that would protect the interest of workers in possibilities such as sickness, maternity, temporary or permanent physical disablement, and death due to employment injury resulting in loss of wages or earning capacity. The Act also guarantees reasonably good medical care to workers and their immediate dependents.

Documents Required

  Copy of electricity bill/landline bill/water bill.
  Self-attested scanned copy of PAN Card & Aadhaar Card.
  For Bank account details- a Copy of Cancelled Cheque/Copy of Bank Statement/Copy of Passbook.
  Copy of Rent agreement and No objection certificate (NOC) from the owner (if rented)
  Registration certificate as obtained under Factories Act and Shops and Establishment Act
  MOA and AOA/LLP Agreement/Partnership Deed
  Attendance registers of the employees
  PAN card of the business establishment

Benefits of ESI Registration

Medical Assistance:

The scheme provides the medical assistance and treatment to the insured person covered under this said act along with his/ her families as and when required.

Maternity Benefit:

This benefit is designed for Pregnant women to whom the benefits are payable up to 26 weeks. The period can be extended by 30 more days on medical instruction. To enjoy the benefit, employees are required to contribute their wages/ salaries for 70 days in the preceding year.

Impairment Benefits:

Disabled employees are eligible for getting 90% of their monthly salaries as disablement benefits.

Unemployment allowance:

ESIC provides monthly cash allowance for a duration of maximum 24 months in case of involuntary loss of employment or permanent invalidity due to non-employment injury.

Sickness Benefits:

Sickness Benefit in the form of cash reimbursement at the rate of 70 percent of wages is payable to insured workers during the periods of certified sickness for a maximum of 91 days in a year.

Dependent Assistances:

During the employment tenure, in case of sudden death of the employee, the dependents of the dead employee will receive 90% of his/her monthly salary.

Funeral Expenses:

An additional amount of Rs.10,000/- towards funeral expenses is provided to the family of the deceased employee.

Confinement Expenses:

Confinement expenses can be availed in case of confinement of an insured woman or wife of an employee occurring in a place with no medical facilities under the ESI scheme.
